Details :
- BHMS stands for Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery . It is a 5 ½ years course (4 ½ Years Study + 1 Year internship) after 10+2 and other equivalent qualification with Biology, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
- Like MBBS, even after completion of BHMS the student is eligible to prefix “Doctor” in his name.
- BHMS in India is run by CCH (Central Council of Homeopathy). CCH grants permission for colleges / universities in India to run Homeopathy course after through inspection. Not only at time of granting permission, CCH inspects each college / university every year so that the college is running the course as per its guidelines.
Students should compulsory check whether the college / university they are willing to join is CCH approved or not, in case of not approved colleges, the degree awarded by that college / university will not be valid
- Homeopathy is the third most used medicine after allopathy and ayurveda.
- The concept of homeopathy is simple, the human body has the power of self healing, enhancing it by highly dilute homeopathic medicine which are mostly in the liquid or tablets form.
- The homeopathic medicine is given to patients depending upon their age, symptoms, emotional feelings, lifestyle.
- As the medicine is 100% natural so there wont be any side effects and addiction, unlike allopathy medicine.
- Subjects such as Homoeopathic Pharmacy, Homoeopathic Matria Medica, Physiology including Biochemistry, Anatomy, Organon of Medicine, Principles of Homoeopathic Philosophy and Psychology, etc.., are taught in MBBS.
- In India for securing a seat in BHMS student must compulsory qualify in NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) which is a National Level entrance exam for BHMS. A student cannot pursue BHMS under any quota, if they do not qualify in NEET.
Duration :
- BHMS is a 5 ½ years course out of which 4½ years is the academic study and 1 year compulsory internship.
- BHMS course is a Undergraduate course it will follow the semester pattern. There will be 9 semesters, each of 6 months (4 ½ Years) after that there will be a 1 year of internship.
Eligibility :
- Age Limit : The minimum age to pursue BHMS is 17 years. Student has to be 17 years old, or should be attending 17 years by December 31st during the year of admission.
- Qualification : Must have complete 10+2 or equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects, and must obtain combined minimum 50% in these subjects. (40% for SC/ST).
- MUST COMPULSORY ATTEND NEET AND QUALIFY IN NEET.
Entrance Exam :
- National Level Exam : National Level Exam for BHMS is NEET.
- State Level Exam : As of now State Exams such as EAMCET (AP/TS), KCET (KARNATAKA), KEAM (KERALA), MP PAT (MADHYA PRADESH) etc., were there for BHMS, but from 2018 NEET might replace these exams similar to which happened for MBBS and BDS. The decision might come by February 2018.
Scope :
- After completion of BHMS, the graduates are eligible to use “Dr” prefix in their name.
- They can practice Homeopathy on their own by opening a clinic. As there is no side effects of the Homeopathy medicine, now a days most of the people are preferring alternative medicine like Ayurveda and Homeopathy. Hence there is a good scope for private practice also.
- They can work as a Doctor in any Private or Government Homeopathy hospitals.
- They can work for any research institutes for clinical research.
- Apart from that a BHMS graduate can find employee in Homeopathy Pharmacy, Pediatrics, Skin specialist etc..,
