B. F. Sc. stands for Bachelor of Fisheries Science, which is a 4 year undergraduate course which provides scientific knowledge and skills essential for fisheries science. Fisheries science is pertained to fish catching, processing, marketing and conservation.

Details :

  • B F. Sc. stands for Bachelor of Fisheries Science . It is a 4 years course after 10+2 and other equivalent qualification with Biology, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
  • Fisheries Science draws on disciplines of aquaculture including breeding, nutrition, genetics, farming, diagnosis of diseases in fishes and other aquatic resources.
  • Fisheries Science is also an allied course under the Agriculture. In India it is administrated by DADF (Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries), which is one among the departments under the Ministry of Agriculture. (Govt. of India).

Duration :

  • B Sc. (Forestry) is a 4 years course which is semester wise pattern so there are 8 semesters.

Eligibility :

  • Age Limit : The minimum age to pursue B.F Sc is 17 years. Student has to be 17 years old, or should be attending 17 years by December 31st during the year of admission.
  • Qualification : Must have complete 10+2 or equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects, and must obtain combined minimum 50% in these subjects. (40% for SC/ST).

Entrance Exam :

  • National Level Exam : National Level Exam for B. F. Sc. is AIEEA UG. There is 15 % seats in Universities are reserved for AIEEA Merit.

Scope of Fisheries Science:

  • India stands on 7th Position in terms of export of fish in the world.
  • As per the DADF (Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries), India is the 2nd largest producer of fresh water fish and 3rd largest producer of the fish in the world.
  • Hence there is a good scope of Fisheries science in India
